Reich-Sprenger1 1GSI, Darmstadt, Germany; 2CERN, Geneva, Switzerland Ion induced desorption is a serious intensity limitation for high current, low charge state heavy ion accelerators like SIS18 and SIS100. Whereas room temperature desorption was intensively investigated in the last years [1, 2], there is only one measurement for molecular desorption of a cryogenic surface in the relevant energy regime [3]. Since SIS100 is a cryogenic, super-conducting machine, desorption yield data for cryogenic surfaces in the relevant temperature regime are required. Therefore two test stands where taken in operation at CERN and GSI in 2009. First GSI results will be presented.

Pressure drop of two-phase helium along long cryogenic flexible transfer lines to support a superconducting RF operation at its cryogenic test stand

BACKGROUND Establishing a stand-alone cryogenic test stand is of vital importance to ensure the highly reliable and available operation of superconducting radio-frequency module in a synchrotron light source. Operating a cryogenic test stand relies strongly on a capability to deliver two-phase helium along long cryogenic transfer lines. A newly constructed cryogenic test stand with flexible cry...

Comparison of Tribological Behavior of Deep Cryogenic Treated Hot Work Tool Steel at Room and High Temperature

The deep cryogenic treatment is a complementary operation that is done on a variety of tool steels aimed at improving their abrasion resistance and hardness. In the case of the H13 hot-work steel, which is widely used at high temperatures as a hot-deformation tool, we need to determine the efficiency of subzero treatment on it at the working temperature. In this regard, this paper is focu...

The effect of dual task training on sit to stand postural control of elderly women with a history of falling

The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effect of dual task training including balance sit-to-stand and cognitive exercises on postural control of sit to stand of elderly women with a history of falling. 15 elderly women were randomly divided into control (n=7) and experimental (n=8) groups. Participants implemented training protocol for four weeks in both experimental (balance ...

Machinability Improvement of 17-4PH Stainless Steel by Cryogenic Cooling

17-4PH stainless steel is a martensitic precipitation hardening stainless steel that provides an outstanding combination of high strength, good corrosion resistance, good mechanical properties, good toughness in both base metal and welds, and short time, low-temperature heat treatments that minimize warpage and scaling. This valuable alloy is widely used in the aerospace, nuclear, chemical, pet...
